What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. Streaming services - in a time like this, it is nice not to have to depend on a place like Blockbusters or regular TV only.  Maybe it's not ideal and probably keeping us in front of the TV more than if we didn't have it, but it is nice to be able to search for movies or full runs of shows to keep our minds off of the real world.

  2. Smart movies and TV shows.  There are so many GOOD movies and shows out there.  Yes, it's great to have the fun and not so serious stuff, but a really good smart show keeps my mind occupied more than something not so deep.
  3. Speaking of good movies, I'm SO grateful that our kids can appreciate amazing old movies.  We are starting to watch movies off the American Film Institute's Top 100.  https://www.afi.com/afis-100-years-100-movies-10th-anniversary-edition/ On Sunday April 26th, we watched Rear Window (1954).  Damian chose it off the list.  They loved it!  What I found so interesting is that it is still a thriller - sometimes, scary movies don't hold up.  But because there are no special effects (well, except for one that was cheesy but didn't effect the enjoyment of the movie), the content of the movie was still so enjoyable and both kids were mesmerized to the end.  Hitchcock was definitely a master.

  4. The ability to let go.  I was taking a psychology class at LAVC this spring.  After much debate, I dropped it because I just don't think I have it in me to continue it right now.  It was a tough class.  I am still taking sociology though.
  5. Incremental goals!  I set a goal of 20,000 steps last week and I did it!  Total of 21,235 steps for the week (plus another 215 on the one day I didn't go out last week).  Roughly 3,000 steps a day.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

1. Playing Bohnanza with the family.
2. Nadia rallying the family to play games.
3. The show Lucifer on Netflix.  It's just fun to watch!
4. This cat video had me laughing on Friday.   https://www.instagram.com/p/B-50TNhhhLA/?igshid=18koftobnixz8

5. But this one had me crying from laughing so hard: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-mc04hBr7p/

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. Cake!  Last Sunday was my birthday.
  2. The show Community on Netflix.  We're doing a rewatch of all the seasons as a family in the evenings and that laughter is so needed right now!
  3. Coronavirus memes!
  4. Small bursts of art in the mornings this week while having my first cup of coffee.
  5. I had a Girl Scout meeting where we played "telephone" on Zoom.  OMG it was so much fun!  Then we stayed on just going through old pictures and memories.  Two of them posted on Instagram old pictures of the troop - what a great trip down memory lane.  And speaking of that - this week 3 years ago, I took my troop to the Grand Canyon for Spring Break.  It was our end-of-8th grade trip.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. Patrick Stewart reading Shakespeare Sonnets! https://www.facebook.com/patrickstewart/
  2. Zoom meetings!  I've had quite a few this week.
    Family Zoom! <3
    • Tuesday: Girl Scout Troop
    • Wednesday: Family zoom in the afternoon and Girl Scout Service Unit Management Team in the evening
    • Thursday: Girl Scout Service Unit zoom for all leaders in the area.  We had about 25-30 people on at one point!
    • Friday: Playgroup moms and kids
  3. Not crying during any of the meetings.  I keep feeling the urge coming on and then it subsides.  I'm waiting for the dam to burst, just hopefully it doesn't do so when I'm on a call.
  4. My friends!  I posted about the lack of yeast and friends came through for me and Nadia (who is the one who is cooking up a storm lately).  Thank you to Anita and to Heather for dropping off yeast.  And thank you to Sheri for letting us borrow her barre for Nadia's dance classes.  💜
  5. BREAD!

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. My Girl Scout troop.  We had our first Girl Scout Zoom meeting last night! So good to see everyone’s smiling and silly faces - what a mood lifter. We’ll make it through this weird time together!

  2. My Girl Scout Service Unit Management Team!  We had a zoom happy hour on Wednesday night. Another uplifting moment!

  3. Trying to be crafty with the Cricut.  Cut out a small mandala that we are going to iron on to 9 different canvasses and then each of us take 3 to paint in.  Maybe we'll be done by next week's post.

  4. Damian's university resumed classes this week online.  Students have to log on to live lectures at the classes' regular time.  There are pros and cons to doing it this way but I think the biggest pro is that it forces Damian to be back on his regular schedule for the 4 days he has classes.

  5. I was able to get my diabetic medicine delivered to me by CVS.  So happy to see my refills arrive within 2 days of ordering them!

What's Making Me Happy This Week.

  1. Girl Scout Cookie season ended one week before the shut down in Los Angeles!
  2. A Facebook group that had a online happy hour last Wednesday evening.  We had 35-40 people on at one point...and the happy hour lasted 3 hours!  It helped me fight the funk for another day.
  3. Walking by Nadia's room one afternoon and hearing her practicing her ukelele.
  4. Damian stretching.
  5. Puzzles.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. My daddy.  It's his birthday!  Happy birthday, Daddy!
  2. The fact that Nadia likes to cook whenever she has time.  And tonight, she had time!  Spaghetti with olive oil, spinach, and meatballs.  Yum!
  3. Grocery delivery service.  Enough said!
  4. An accidental extra order of toilet paper from Amazon Subscriptions a few months ago.  We should be set!
  5. The animated series Harley Quinn.  A fun way for our family to spend our Friday night together.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. The long lines to vote on Super Tuesday.  It was gratifying to see people care about the process even if the results didn't go the way I hoped.
  2. Nadia sold about 100 boxes of Girl Scout cookies this week.  She's busy but she's so good about managing her time and making sure she gets everything done.  And she doesn't wait until the last minute.
  3. Damian getting into this political cycle and watching the debates.
  4. The sisterhood that is comprised of Girl Scout Leaders.
  5. This video (start at the 20 second mark): https://photos.app.goo.gl/RtNtbxSa65sxHnzh8

What's making me happy this week

  1. Damian's stop motion animation project.  He used LEGOs!
  2. Girl Scouts - it's cookie season and yes, I like it.  It's stressful to make sure we sell all the boxes of cookies, but when we make a sale, it's a great feeling!
  3. My Celebrate Everything calendar.  Every day is a holiday!  Today is Tooth Fairy Day.
  4. Nadia's dance teachers - Jackie, Mel, Ina, and Jerry to name just a few.  Jackie, Mel, and Ina are from her high school CHAMPS Charter High School for the Arts.  Jerry coaches her privately for her competitions and is one of her teachers at Burbank Dance Academy.
  5. The potential of moving on from a stagnant situation.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  1. My friend, Ari, who sent me a text on Tuesday just to tell me that she’s proud of me and my walking posts.  It made my day (and apparently my week!).
  2. Reframing.  I am trying to take situations in my life and reframe the way I look at them - to look at them as opportunities.
  3. Colleagues at work who appreciate what I do and what I want to do.
  4. Lily Tomlin - her character on Grace & Frankie makes me smile so much.
  5. Podcasts to listen to while I’m walking.
