The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book but it did make me rethink how I rate and review books where everything turns out happy for all the characters. I’ve been a little critical of feel good movies and feel good books in my adult life, but I will say that to anyone who reads this book, make sure you read the authors acknowledgments at the end. Some of her thoughts about the way she wrote this book makes sense and made me realize that sometimes we just need a happy ending.

As my children grow up, I realize that I know nothing. Sometimes they tell me that to my face, but mostly I realize that I'm learning to parent as I go along. #parenting #transgenderparenting #mommy #transgender #raisingkids

Review: Fourth Wing
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The first 2/3 of the book was 3.5 stars for me - no surprises, formulaic YA romance at a college setting, albeit with dragons. I liked the dragons and the relationships between the dragons and their chosen riders. I thought the rules around that wee pretty cool. But the other stuff - falling for the dangerous guy who is rough on the outside, emotional on the inside with trauma - par for the course.
The last 1/3 of the book though - wow - 5 stars. The climactic war scenes were so descriptive and centered more around the intense friendships that can be built in college times. Very well laid out, written, and executed. I felt like I could see the scenes and really felt the emotions of the characters.
Looking forward to reading the next book.
